Event 4: Rep. Cori Bush Fights for Eviction Moratorium
top retweets:
On Friday night, I came to the Capitol with my chair. I refused to accept that Congress could leave for vacation while 11 million people faced eviction.

For 5 days, we’ve been out here, demanding that our government acts to save lives.
Today, our movement moved mountains.

In Fulton County eviction court today: tenant says he’s approved for rental assistance but payment hasn’t been made. Judge won’t reset case and gives him 10 minutes to check with case worker, who says payment may take 7-14 days. Landlord then asks for eviction. Judge approves.

Just a reminder that Cori Bush had an AR-15 pointed at her by Mark and Patricia McCloskey last summer.

And on the SAME DAY that Cori Bush's activism helped save millions from eviction, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson pardoned the McCloskeys for waving their guns at her.
Just wow.
So Biden basically admitted his rent moratorium was unconstitutional. But — again, by his own admission — he shopped for some lawyers who’d say it isn’t. This is a violation of the President’s oath of office. Constitutional norms aren’t just for the other team.

Trump CDC takes over private property via eviction moratorium.

Insane.
SCOTUS says it’s unconstitutional but OK to leave in place since it ends soon.
Insane.
Biden says it probably is unconstitutional but directs CDC to extend it again.

Landlords are not some evil group of shadowy fat cats, you damned stupid children. They are property owners, many are middle class. The eviction moratorium is destroying them and bailing out moochers and squatters who refuse to fulfill the terms of the rental contract they signed

Maxine Waters failed to pass a bill to extend the eviction moratorium, yet Joe Biden is issuing an extension anyway, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling against it.

This is illegal.
The new 60-day CDC eviction moratorium carries steep criminal penalties for individual landlords who break the law:
