The White House says it doesn't have authority to extend the eviction moratorium or cancel student debt.

But it hasn’t had a problem conducting airstrikes without authorization from Congress.
I just had a conversation with @VP Kamala Harris. I needed her to look me in my eyes and I wanted to look in hers when I asked for help to prevent our people from being evicted.

Madam Vice President, let’s work together to get this done. We need a federal eviction moratorium.
The CDC has the power to extend the eviction moratorium. As they double down on masks, why wouldn't they extend the moratorium in light of delta variant?

NYC taxpayers now spend $1,226 a night to cage a human being on Rikers Island. Read that again. That’s $447,337 per year! For just one person! We have an eviction crisis on our hands. And this is how we’re allowing our leaders to spend our money. This should outrage everyone.

5 AM. This morning felt cold, like the wind was blowing straight through my sleeping bag.

Since Friday—when some colleagues chose early vacation over voting to prevent evictions—we’ve been at the Capitol.
It’s an eviction emergency. Our people need an eviction moratorium. Now.
do people even understand this? it's not just this pandemic eviction, it's the fact that it will follow ppl forever. "have you ever been evicted", "ever left a lease agreement early" & all such questions will always be a barrier to housing. for millions of families. https://t.co/E1bqRuTaeg

Just want everyone to be clear that the mass eviction crisis is preventable, manufactured and deliberate on the part of our government as part of an overall massive wealth transfer that has been escalated during the pandemic.

The eviction moratorium is expiring while 500 people will be partying at the $12 million oceanfront castle of the president who presided over a foreclosure crisis as his Wall Street donors profited off throwing millions of people out of their homes. https://t.co/7zZfO6cFFR

On Thursday, @POTUS asked Congress to pass an extension of the eviction moratorium. Sadly, it's clear the Senate is not able to do so & any legislation in the House, therefore, won't be sufficient to extend the moratorium. Action is needed & it must come from the Administration.

I was evicted four days before the CDC's moratorium went into effect last year, in the rain. It was one of the most humiliating experiences I have ever went through. I lost so much. Eviction prevention is what most people need.#EvictionCrisis
