Event 9: USHR Votes to Remove Confederate Statues
top retweets:
The majority of the Radical Republicans voted to honor the Confederacy by refusing to remove Confederate statues in our nation’s Capitol.

We are watching the radicalization of the GOP in real time. They now embrace traitors (and losers), like insurrectionists & confederates. https://t.co/OrG4ZXCeRh
Quite frankly, more important right now than removing Confederate statues from the Capitol, is removing Confederate Congressmen.

The unfuckening of America continues, slowly but surely.
120 House Republicans voted to keep statues honoring people who defended the Confederacy on display in the Capitol.

UPDATE: U.S. House votes 285-120 to remove Confederate statues from public display in the Capitol as well as the bust of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, who wrote the 1857 Dred Scott decision; 67 Republicans joined Democrats to advance the bill. https://t.co/7hZrKG3OUK

In the iniquitous Dred Scott decision, Supreme Court Justice Roger Taney ruled that Black Americans were not U.S. citizens. I just voted to remove a bust of him from the Capitol and replace it with one of Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice.

285-120, the House approves a measure to remove Confederate statues from the halls of the Capitol. It now moves to the Senate. All Dems voted for it. All ‘no’ votes were Republicans.

You’re embarrassing yourself, Kevin. Your party has embraced authoritarian white nationalism as a “base strategy,” defended treasonous confederate monuments and absorbed the old Dixiecrats. Teaching accurate history is what a mature country does. And you have no clue what CRT is. https://t.co/melQZ2Uk4a
